After graduating from Trinity College, Cambridge I joined Maunsell, a firm of Consulting Engineers. The firm opened an office in Hong Kong and I was invited to move there to establish a design team. Originally on a three-year contract, wy wife and I ended up staying longer. Thirty seven years later we still love Hong Kong's diversity and its people.
I retired in 2003 and now spend more time in pursuing my long-time interest in antique weapons and military history. I had already published a few articles but expanded my writing for journals and magazines in the UK, the USA, Hong Kong and Macau (see ARTICLES). I have also written two non-fiction books (see BOOKS) and I am a reviewer fo Asian Review of Books (see REVIEWS). I also write on the history of Hong Kong and am researching a book on the history of the Peak District.
I am a member of the Arms and Armour Society, the Ordnance Society and the Society for Army Historical Research.
